GNSS

This page documents the GNSS configuration

Warning

Changes to the GNSS configuration section triggers a one-time cold-restart of the receiver resulting in a longer time-to-fix.

Configuration explained

The CANmod.gps is a concurrent receiver capable of receiving and tracking signals from multiple Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).

Some GNSS have many satellites deployed globally and are capable of providing navigation solutions on their own. Others have fewer satellites that can be used as a supplement.

The device generally tries to combine information from all available systems to obtain the best possible navigation information.

Supported GNSS systems:

  • GPS: GNSS operated by the US department of defense

  • GLONASS: GNSS operated by Russian Federation department of defense

  • Galileo: GNSS operated by the European Union

  • BeiDou: GNSS operated by China

GPS and GLONASS have both existed for many years and generally both provide good coverage. Galileo and BeiDou are relatively newer systems with a historically lower level of coverage compared to GPS and GLONASS.

The configuration allows the user to specify which GNSS systems to use. As the systems use different frequency bands, some combinations of systems are not allowed.
