Install

Before you connect your CANmod, it is important that you do the following:

  1. Read the installation guide in the CANmod Docs
  2. Verify that the pin-out of your application, adapter cable & CANmod match
  3. Review if CAN termination should be enabled (on by default)
  4. Verify that the device bit-rate matches your CAN bus
  5. Verify that the device CAN IDs are unique on your CAN bus

If you experience issues with the primary CAN (DB9), see this guide.

If you experience issues with the secondary CAN (DB25) on a CANmod.router, see this guide.

Warning

Connecting the CANmod to an existing CAN bus without carefully reviewing the above can disrupt CAN communication and result in critical issues

Connect to CANedge

A common use case is to connect the CANmod to a CANedge 2nd port. For details on this setup, see the CANedge Intro (Record/CANmod section).

Daisy chain multiple CANmods

You can easily daisy chain multiple CANmod devices together by ensuring the below:

  1. Ensure each unit uses globally unique CAN IDs
  2. Ensure each unit uses the same bit-rate
  3. Update your DBC file(s) according to any CAN ID changes
